Overview

The value of the project is not that HADUCO gained an identity or a tagline. It is that a business still building its capability now has a brand platform clear enough to grow with.

From a young brand in oil and gas marine services, HADUCO has built a clearer standing step by step around its core values: Safety, Excellence and Responsibility.

Context

Where did the brand stand?

By 2015, HADUCO was shifting from a maritime business to specializing in vessel services for the offshore oil and gas industry (Offshore Marine Services). Since 2013 it had been concentrating on building deep capability in supplying oil and gas service vessels, on a base of people, finance, technical infrastructure and operations.

HADUCO works across several specialized offshore service groups: drilling support, rig towing, diving jobs and ROV diving, rig moves, crude oil offtake support and field standby. These are activities that demand technical capability, operating discipline and a high standard of safety.

The oil and gas marine services market was then at the end of a strong growth cycle, but oil prices had started to plunge in late 2014, bringing pressure to cut costs and adjust strategy across the industry. HADUCO faced a market that was opening up room to grow and, at the same time, becoming harsher.

The task was not only to expand the fleet but to build a brand clear and trustworthy enough to match the capability taking shape.

Problem

What really had to be renewed?

HADUCO had the capability, but its brand presence did not yet match it.

In an industry where safety, technical capability and reputation bear directly on who gets chosen, HADUCO was still new and modest in size next to the large domestic and regional competitors. The market did not yet see HADUCO clearly as a professional, trustworthy provider of oil and gas marine services.

The real strengths in its fleet, people, infrastructure and operations were not yet shown clearly or consistently either. The values of Safety and Excellence, Humanity, Solidarity, Fairness and Transparency had not yet become a clear impression on the outside.

So the problem was not what HADUCO lacked in order to do the work well.

HADUCO lacked a presence strong enough to turn capability into competitive advantage.

Discovery

What did FreshBrand see?

Through research and conversations with HADUCO, FreshBrand recognized an important gap:

Inside, HADUCO had defined fairly clearly who it wanted to be; outside, the market still could not see it clearly enough.

HADUCO wanted to be an oil and gas marine services partner that is safe, efficient and trustworthy, able to handle complex offshore missions. But the brand did not yet have the presence to turn those values into an advantage people recognized and trusted.

Insight

“HADUCO does not lack capability or the right attitude. HADUCO lacks a presence strong enough to turn that capability into competitive advantage.”

Diagnosis

The gap to close was the gap between:

“what HADUCO is” and “what the market sees HADUCO as”.

This was the brand’s strategic bottleneck.

Point of view

How did FreshBrand read the problem?

FreshBrand did not believe HADUCO needed a new image just to stand apart.

The right values were already there. What had to change was how those values are seen, felt and trusted.

In an industry where trust is built on real capability, safety and consistency, a brand cannot simply say it is good. It has to make that capability visibly present.

From this, FreshBrand set out a principle:

There is no need to create new value if the market has not yet fully recognized the value already there.

And the brand’s point of view became the compass for the whole project:

Keep the foundation of values and the right capability, and build a brand presence strong enough to turn that capability into lasting competitive advantage.

Strategy

What did we choose?

The strategy did not begin by refreshing the image. It began by deciding what to keep and what to renew.

  • KeepSafety, Excellence and Responsibility, together with the values of Humanity, Solidarity, Fairness and Transparency. Keep the people’s capability, the spirit of discipline, the technical infrastructure and the commitment to dependable, efficient service.
  • RenewHow the market sees HADUCO: from a little-known company to a professional, trustworthy oil and gas marine services partner.
  • FocusMake the capability for safety, efficiency and handling complex offshore missions into values people clearly recognize.
  • GrowA brand strong enough to go along with HADUCO as it expands its fleet, its markets and its competitive strength.

Not chasing a new image for its own sake, but making what HADUCO is pursuing clear, present and credible in the eyes of the market.

Core values

  1. Safety
  2. Excellence
  3. Responsibility

Renewal

How was the strategy brought to life?

The strategy was turned into one unified brand system that makes HADUCO’s capability and commitment clear in oil and gas marine services.

  • PlatformThe Brand Platform sets the brand on two pillars: professional strength, and the commitment to Safety and Excellence together with Responsibility, Solidarity and Transparency.
  • ArchitectureHADUCO stays the master brand, with the service groups brought under one unified brand roof, giving the brand clarity and strength.
  • Name & identity“Reaching To The Sea” was kept and raised into a promise to reach out to the open sea through capability and responsibility. The identity system was developed to be strong, professional, disciplined and sea-facing, reflecting the spirit of Safety, Excellence and Trustworthiness.
  • Brand & experienceVisual language, voice, space, digital and communication are organized to be clear, confident and professional, focused on real capability rather than showmanship.
  • TouchpointsBrand Guidelines give the brand a base for consistent rollout, from vessels, uniforms, offices and wharves to the company profile and communications.

Impact

What really changed?

The repositioning gave HADUCO a clearer, more consistent brand system, from how the brand is defined to how its capability and commitment are shown to the outside.

  • BrandHADUCO has a clearer position in oil and gas marine services, built around professional capability and the commitment to Safety, Excellence and Responsibility.
  • SystemValues, identity and touchpoints are connected in one unified system, giving HADUCO a base for expressing the same identity across many settings and audiences.
  • Foundation for growthThe brand was built not only for the moment of repositioning but to keep being applied and developed as the business grows.
  • GrowthFrom about 19 vessels in 2015, HADUCO grew to about 50 after 11 years, while extending its operations from Southeast Asia into Asia.

That growth shows that a brand platform built at the right moment can keep living with a business as it grows and reaches further.

Value created

How did the brand come to mean more?

  • Identity valueA clear, unified brand with an identity of its own in oil and gas marine services.
  • Perceived valueCapability and commitment turned into an image that can be seen, felt and trusted more consistently.
  • Growth valueA brand platform able to go along with an expanding fleet, larger contracts and a wider operating reach.
  • Long-term valueThe identity system, the brand story and the principle of Safety, Excellence and Responsibility become assets that can keep being protected and developed along with the business.

Brand space

The greatest value is not in creating a new image, but in building a brand platform strong enough for HADUCO’s capability to be seen and trusted, and for the brand to reach further with the business.
