Overview

The greatest value lies not in a new identity or a better-told story, but in turning an advantage that is hard to copy into a meaningful brand asset.

Context

Where did the brand stand?

Before 2018, CAMIMEX already held a special place in Vietnam’s shrimp industry.

Founded in 1977 in Ca Mau, CAMIMEX had more than 40 years of operation and had built deep processing capability to international standards. Its biggest difference, though, was the direction it chose in 2000: pioneering an ecological shrimp farming model that links shrimp and forest, and building a supply chain that earned international organic certifications such as Naturland and EU Organic.

That was a rare asset at a time when, in 2018, the shrimp industry was under heavy pressure from global oversupply, falling prices, high inventory and ever fiercer cost competition.

In that situation, CAMIMEX faced a choice:

keep taking part in the mass-market shrimp competition, or turn its advantage in ecological organic shrimp into a distinct position in the high-value segment.

CAMIMEX was in a position to choose the second path.

To do that, however, the advantage had to become an identity.

That is where the project of transforming and renewing the brand’s identity began.

Problem

What really had to be renewed?

The problem was not production capability.

Nor was it certification.

CAMIMEX already had the ecological shrimp–forest model, the organic chain and a position in Europe’s premium segment. Yet in the minds of many customers and partners it was still easily seen as just another shrimp processing and export company.

What was not yet seen clearly enough was:

the shrimp–forest story, the value of the ecosystem, the depth of the organic certification and a pioneering position built over many years.

In an industry where products are easily treated as identical and price becomes the main basis of competition, this gap created a serious risk:

CAMIMEX could hold a distinctive advantage and still be pulled into the game of an ordinary commodity.

So the challenge was never to create one more advantage.

It was to turn the pioneering advantage it already had into a brand identity clear enough to be recognized, trusted and preferred.

Discovery

What did FreshBrand see?

Looking deeply into CAMIMEX, FreshBrand noticed something quite unusual:

CAMIMEX did not merely sell organic shrimp. It had built an entire system that produces organic shrimp.

From seed stock, farming areas, links with farmers and the mangrove forest, through supply chain control to processing and export, the difference came from a whole system rather than a single product. The company profile that followed also showed this chain structure clearly, from hatchery and ecological farming areas to the processing plant and export.

But the very depth of the advantage created a paradox:

The more complex an advantage is, the harder it is to turn into a brand meaning unless it is distilled into a clear identity.

Insight

CAMIMEX holds a very distinctive advantage, but it has not yet been “packaged” into an identity strong enough for the market to recognize and prefer.

Diagnosis

CAMIMEX does not lack capability.
CAMIMEX does not lack a story.

CAMIMEX lacks an identity that can turn a whole distinctive value chain into a reason to choose it.

Point of view

How did FreshBrand read the problem?

FreshBrand did not see CAMIMEX as a brand that needed a new story.

The story already existed, and it was strong enough.

What was needed was to bring that story out from behind the production system, the certifications and the company profile and put it in front of the brand.

So the point of view we set was:

An advantage only becomes strength when the market sees it and prefers it.

For CAMIMEX, the brand first had to help the market see:

the pioneer and largest producer of ecological organic shrimp, rather than just a shrimp processing and export company.

That meant:

  • Not following the image of ordinary shrimp brands.
  • Not putting price at the center of the competition.
  • Not inventing a brand story detached from reality.

Instead, the shrimp–forest advantage, the organic certifications and the pioneering position would become CAMIMEX’s central identity.

Strategy

What did we choose?

The strategy began with four choices:

  • KeepThe ecological shrimp–forest farming model, the international organic certification system, the links with farmers and the commitment to protect the mangrove forest.
  • RenewHow the market sees CAMIMEX: from a shrimp processing and export company to the pioneer and largest producer of ecological organic shrimp.
  • FocusHighlighting and protecting the position in ecological organic shrimp, steering the brand toward the high-value, sustainable segment instead of mass-market price competition.
  • GrowAn identity strong enough to tell the shrimp–forest story, the organic values and the pioneering position consistently, while helping CAMIMEX widen its standing in premium markets.

The core choice

Do not chase price competition in the mass-market segment.

Instead, hold on to and highlight the pioneering advantage in ecological organic shrimp, turning a real advantage into a brand identity strong enough for CAMIMEX to be seen for the position it has built.

Renewal

How was the strategy brought to life?

When an advantage becomes a brand identity

The identity transformation made the pioneering advantage in ecological organic shrimp clear, so the market could recognize and choose it, with no new image invented along the way.

  • PlatformThe Brand Platform was built on the ecological shrimp–forest chain since 2000 and the international organic certification system across the whole chain, turning a real advantage into a clear reason to choose.
  • SystemCAMIMEX Group became the shared umbrella, with CAMIMEX Organic and the ecological shrimp value chain as the pillars of difference. The identity and brand language were developed in a spirit of nature, sustainability, purity and international standards, while making the shrimp–forest story clear.
  • Experience & communicationFrom the farming areas and the factory to the website, company profile and other touchpoints, the system was organized so that the story of “the pioneer and largest in ecological organic shrimp” is felt consistently, grounded in the values CAMIMEX had built.

Impact

What really changed?

From a real advantage to a more clearly recognized brand.

The identity transformation gathered the advantages CAMIMEX already had into a clearer view of the brand.

  • BrandCAMIMEX took clearer shape with its position in ecological organic shrimp, instead of being seen only as a shrimp processing and export company. The shrimp–forest story, the international certifications and sustainable values became central elements of the identity.
  • ExperienceThe advantage no longer sits apart in the farming areas, the processes or the technical files. It shows across every touchpoint, helping customers feel the depth of the model more clearly.
  • PositionA clear identity gives CAMIMEX the base to aim at the high-value segment, reinforce its pioneering position and build a shared language for the company, its products and its responsibility to the land of Ca Mau.

The core impact

CAMIMEX moved from owning a pioneering advantage to being a brand able to make that advantage recognized more clearly.

Value created

How did the brand come to mean more?

  • Value & perceptionThe shrimp–forest advantage and the international organic certifications were turned into a clear position in the high-value segment. The market gained a clearer view of CAMIMEX as a brand tied to a distinctive ecological organic shrimp model, beyond an export shrimp company.
  • Meaning & long-term valueThe brand speaks of an ecosystem, a way of producing and a long-term responsibility to the land of Ca Mau, as well as of shrimp. In an industry where products are easily treated as identical and compete on price, an identity tied to pioneering, sustainability and high standards adds ground for protecting the difference.

The most important thing stayed unchanged:

The shrimp–forest ecological model and the international organic standards are not a brand story that was invented. They are value CAMIMEX built and operated for many years before.

CAMIMEX did not create a new advantage. It made the advantage it already had a clear part of the brand’s value.
